The L.A. Art Book Fair featured a staggering array of rare, out-of-print, handmade, small press wonders. Here are a few of the things I picked up.

'Smoke Room 2' by Dan Lopez

Also at Printed Matter, I found this photographic compendium by Dan Lopez titled “Smoke Room 2.” It features some great little corners of Los Angeles.  (Carolina A. Miranda / Los Angeles Times)

'Kamasutra' by Roberto Majan

From Gato Negro Press in Mexico, I picked up this striking palm-sized book by Spanish illustrator Roberto Majan that depicts elements of the Kama Sutra in playful, iconographic ways.  (Carolina A. Miranda / Los Angeles times)

'Angel Cassoulet' by Le Dernier Cri

This lovingly produced artist book (every page is silk-screened) gathers illustrations of monsters by a variety of artists. “Angel Cassoulet” is produced by Le Dernier Cri out of Montreal and I managed to lay my hands on it at the Vasta Books table.  (Carolina A. Miranda / Los Angeles Times)

'Bronx Gothic' by Okwui Okpokwasili

Last year, Okwui Okpokwasili gave an unforgettable performance called “Bronx Gothic” that touched on teen insecurity and sexuality at Show Box L.A. I found this little chapbook tied to that show at the Otherwild table. A score!  (Carolina A. Miranda / Los Angeles Times)
