Is it beginning to sound a lot like Christmas?

Well, not yet, actually.

But Kelly Clarkson is doing her best to trigger the coming holiday-music avalanche with “Underneath the Tree,” a remarkably cheery new single she released Friday.

It’s the first sampling from Clarkson’s upcoming Christmas album “Wrapped in Red,” which is due out Oct. 29 and is to include renditions of such yuletide staples as “Run Run Rudolph,” “My Favorite Things” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The former “American Idol” champ also recorded collaborations with Ronnie Dunn (on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”) and Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood (on “Silent Night”).

“Underneath the Tree,” FYI, was co-written by Clarkson and L.A.-based pop whiz Greg Kurstin, who produced the singer’s 2012 hit “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).”
