HBO wants to be alone, cancels ‘Togetherness’

It appears that HBO would like a little alone time.

The network announced Friday that it would not be renewing “Togetherness,” created by Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis, for a third season.

“Although we have decided not to proceed with another season of ‘Togetherness,’ we look forward to continuing our strong creative collaboration with the talented Jay and Mark Duplass,” HBO said in its official statement regarding the cancellation.

The series, which focused primarily on a small group of friends as they struggled to find contentment with their careers, their relationships and their lives as a whole, starred both Zissis and Mark Duplass, as well as Amanda Peet and Melanie Lynskey, and is currently in the midst of airing its second season.

On Twitter, the three creators each posted a message to fans, expressing their sadness at the announcement and their appreciation for the support and affection from their audience.

“Millions tuned in to watch a personal, niche show about sensitive people and the sensitive feelings that they feel sensitively. In a time where you have so many great options on TV, we don’t take this lightly and we will be forever grateful for your kind words and support. Know that we love all of you and that we will be back soon,” read the sentiment, co-signed by Zissis and the Duplass brothers.

The Duplass brothers, at least, won’t be leaving HBO at all, as the pair serve as executive producers on “Animals,” an animated comedy series in the midst of the first season of a two-season order from the network.

“Togetherness” will air its series finale on Sunday, April 10, at 10:30 p.m.
