A man allegedly wielding a knife and hostile intentions toward Michael Strahan was tackled by a police officer outside the Times Square studios of “Good Morning America” on Tuesday.

According to an ABC News representative, the man, identified by the New York Post as 25-year-old Andre Johnson, lunged at an ABC News employee and was tackled by an NYPD officer. Johnson was taken into custody for psychiatric evaluation.

“It was a scary situation but thanks to the fast actions of NYPD the situation was quickly under control,” the spokesperson said. “Michael was never in any danger.”

According to the Post, Johnson later told police, “I was there to kill Michael Strahan.”

He was charged with attempted assault as a felony, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

Strahan was not aware of the incident at the time and was only informed of it Tuesday afternoon.

The former New York Giants defensive end currently serves as a part-time host on “GMA” while also serving as co-host of “Live! With Kelly and Michael.”
