TV ratings: ‘24’ rises in finale, ‘Under the Dome’ wins

Share

Fox won the Monday night ratings race with the combined pull of Gordon Ramsay and Jack Bauer, but CBS’ “Under the Dome” regained its position as the night’s top show, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen.

With “MasterChef” and the finale of “24: Live Another Day,” Fox averaged 5.97 million viewers overall and a rating of 1.7 among key 18- to 49-year-old viewers, giving it an outright victory over its broadcast competitors.

The “24” reboot ended on a sad note for viewers. However, its ratings were brighter than recent episodes. Its 18-49 average surged 21% to a 1.7 compared with last week, while its total viewership was up 8% to 6.5 million people compared with last week. That’s “24’s” best total viewership number since the premiere in May, when it drew about 8 million viewers. The 18-49 number was the best since the June 2 episode.

The May premiere scored a 2.5 in 18-49, so the finale is down significantly from that strong start.

“MasterChef,” the Gordon Ramsay cooking contest, earned a 1.8, down slightly from last week.

If ratings hold, that means “Under the Dome” is back on top. The CBS summer drama inspired by the Stephen King novel notched a 1.9, rising 12% from last week, when it hit a series low and fell behind “MasterChef,” NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and ABC’s “The Bachelorette.”

“The Bachelorette” and “American Ninja Warrior” both clocked in at 1.7 this week.
