Kim Jong Un and uncle Jang Song Taek

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, right, walks past Jang Song Taek, his uncle, after reviewing a parade of thousands of soldiers and commemorating the 70th birthday of his father, late leader Kim Jong Il, in Pyongyang, the capital, in February 2012. State media announced that Jang had been executed Dec. 12, 2013, calling the young leader's former mentor "worse than a dog." The news came days after Pyongyang announced that Jang had been removed from all of his posts because of allegations of corruption, drug use, gambling, womanizing and generally leading a "dissolute and depraved life."
