Onetime home of famed costume designer Edith Head sells in Palm Springs
The onetime desert home of Hollywood costume designer Edith Head, who dressed such stars as Ginger Rogers and Elizabeth Taylor, has sold in Palm Springs for $775,000.
Built in the late 1950s, the Hacienda-style house retains its rustic vibe with arched doorways, exposed brickwork and rough sawn wood beams. Saltillo tilework can be found both inside and out.
The living room draws the eye with colorful accents, and a midcentury fireplace is dressed in decorative tile. A dining room, a breakfast nook, an updated kitchen and a bonus room/den also lie within the 2,200 square feet of interiors.
The master suite has an arched fireplace and a wall of built-ins. The home has a total of three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There’s also a separate sauna/spa room.
French doors open to a covered patio that overlooks a swimming pool and spa. Fire features, fountains, citrus trees and desert landscaping complete the setting.
The house was most recently listed for sale at $799,000, records show. Five years ago, it changed hands for $570,000.
Brian Beard of Keller Williams Luxury Homes represented both the buyer and the seller in the sale.
Head, who died in 1981 at 83, received nearly three dozen Academy Award nominations for best costume design, winning eight Oscars. Later in her career, she was given a Meritorious Public Service Award for designing a new women’s uniform for the U.S. Coast Guard.
