Former Dodger James Loney parts ways with his acre-plus estate in Poway
Professional baseball player James Loney, who appeared in 100 games for the New York Mets last year, has sold his home in the Poway area of San Diego for $1.925 million.
The two-story house, designed by Greg Agee and built in 2003, sits on more than an acre with a lagoon-style swimming pool, a functioning well, tropical landscaping and stretches of lawn. More than 80 solar panels help to offset the electrical consumption of the 6,064-square-foot home.
Inside, the entryway has vaulted ceilings, inlaid marble floors and a modern chandelier. There are six bedrooms and five bathrooms, including a master suite with an artistic tiled fireplace. Two other fireplaces lie in the living and great rooms.
In the kitchen, dark wood cabinetry creates visual contrast against slab marble countertops. An adjoining breakfast nook has windows that take in a view of the grounds.
Loney bought the house five years ago, records show.
Terrence Griffin of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent. Tyler Hagerla of Coastal Premier Properties represented the buyer.
Loney, a former first-round pick of the Dodgers, played for L.A. from 2006 to 2012. The 32-year-old first baseman signed a minor league deal with the Padres after being released by the Rays last year, but finished the year with the Mets following a midseason trade.
He is currently a free agent.
