Westside home of late ‘Rocky’ director John Avildsen lists for $8 million
The longtime home of the late John G. Avildsen, director of “Rocky” and “The Karate Kid” films, has come on the market in the Beverly Hills Post Office area for $7.995 million.
The three-parcel spread, which encompasses about two acres, centers on a 1940-built traditional-style home with seven bedrooms. A separate guesthouse and a driveway with parking for 10 vehicles also lies within the grounds.
Within nearly 4,000 square feet of interior space is a large family room with a wet bar and a dining room that sits beneath an upper-level loft. Floor-to-ceiling windows brighten the living spaces, which feature wood and brick accents.
The downstairs master suite has a fireplace and a sitting room. There are six bathrooms and a powder room.
Panoramic canyon and downtown views can be seen from the wraparound first-floor terrace and two upstairs balconies. Sliding glass doors open to a patio with an oval-shaped swimming pool and spa.
Avildsen, who died in June at 81, bought the home and adjoining lots three decades ago, records show. The film director won an Academy Award 1977 for his work on “Rocky.” His other films include “Joe” (1970) and “Lean On Me” (1989).
