Mark Duplass slides into Silver Lake with second-highest-priced sale
Mark Duplass and his wife, actress Katie Aselton, have entered a new league with the purchase of a Barbara Bestor-designed contemporary in Silver Lake. At about $4.4 million, the sale represents the second-most-expensive residential transaction recorded in the L.A. neighborhood.
Formerly owned by producer Callum Greene, the property came on the market in February for $4.25 million and closed sale in late April for about $190,000 more than the asking price. The sale is second only to the John Lautner-designed Silvertop, also known as the Reiner-Burchill Residence, which went for 14% above the asking price this past October -- $8.55 million.
Sited above Silver Lake Reservoir on a third of an acre, the wood-clad contemporary was originally built for screenwriter Michael Ferris in 2006.
Within the 7,256 square feet of living space is a gallery entry with a built-in fish tank, large formal areas, a chef’s kitchen with a breakfast bar, a game room and a maid’s quarters with a separate entry. Rich walnut paneling and walls of windows lend a warm and airy quality to the open-space design, which has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Outdoors, a large entertainer’s space centers on a swimming pool with a spa, a large expanse of grass and a fire pit. A rooftop deck takes in views of the downtown cityscape, reservoir and Hollywood sign.
Brian Ades of Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent, according to the Multiple Listing Service. Karen Lower of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage represented the buyers in the sale, which was first reported by Variety. The exact closing price was $4,439,776.
Duplass, 38, is an actor, screenwriter and director known for his role as Peter Eckhart on the FX sitcom “The League.” Among his other credits is the film “Jeff, Who Lives at Home” (2011) and “Creep” (2014), as well as the HBO series “Togetherness.”
Aselton, 36, co-stars with her husband on “The League” and has appeared in a number of his other film projects including “Cyrus” (2010) and “The Freebie” (2010).
