Danny DeVito paces L.A.’s top home sales with off-market deal
A reimagined Midcentury home in Trousdale Estates, a Vaughan Trammell-designed contemporary in La Cañada Flintridge and the longtime home of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman were among the top residential real estate sales in the greater Los Angeles area last week.
1000 block of Ridgedale Dr., Beverly Hills
Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman sold their longtime Beverly Hills home, for which they were asking $32 million, in an off-market deal. Designed in French country style by Robert DeYoung, the brick-lined estate is highlighted by a projection room, an art studio, a bar, a den and a wine cellar in 14,579 square feet. Two swimming pools and a guesthouse make up the two-acre grounds. Paul Lester and Aileen Comora of The Agency were the listing agents. Rochelle Atlas Maize and Gayle Weiss of Nourmand & Associates represented the buyers.

1900 block of The Strand, Hermosa Beach
A double-lot property in Hermosa Beach marketed as a development opportunity sold for $15 million after coming on the market last year for the first time in 50 years. Sited along a walking street and the Strand, the beachfront home touts 80 feet of frontage and unobstructed views from Catalina Island up to Malibu. A 3,436-square-foot home built in 1913, a detached garage and a walled easement make up the grounds. Leo Nordine of Nordine Realtors was the listing agent. Dennis Moloney of Shorewood Realtors represented the buyer.
1100 block of Maytor Pl., Beverly Hills
Listed for $12.995 million in January, a Midcentury estate reimagined by Trip Haenisch and Hadi Halawani sold for $11.9 million in about three months. Marked by a gated motor court, the six-bedroom home in Trousdale Estates is distinguished by slatted wood dividers, walls of glass, wide-plank oak flooring and a two-sided fireplace that divides formal living spaces. A pool, cabanas and an expanse of grass complete the nearly half-acre grounds. Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Realty, was the listing agent. David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties and David Gray of Partners Trust Beverly Hills represented the buyer.
1600 block of Carla Ridge, Beverly Hills
A remodeled home on a half-acre in Beverly Hills sold for $7.25 million and nearly $2.5 million more than what it went for in 2013 -- $4.893 million. The 1980s contemporary is entered through a foyer that opens to a living room and adjacent dining and family rooms. High ceilings, glass walls, French oak flooring and a remade master bathroom are among the interior updates. A curved pool and a raised deck are among the exterior features. Mauricio Umansky and Jay Harris of the Agency handled both ends of the transaction.
500 block of N. Roxbury Dr., Beverly Hills
A gated Mediterranean-style home in the west end of the Beverly Hills flats sold for $7 million after listing for sale last July for $8.899 million. Entered through a double-height foyer with a dual staircase, the 7,000-square-foot space has large formal areas with coffered ceilings, a kitchen with a large center island and a master suite with two fireplaces, a sitting room, his and hers bathrooms and a double shower. Dee Crawford of Keller Williams Beverly Hills and Mauricio Umansky of the Agency were the co-listing agents. Crawford also repped the buyer in the sale.
700 block of N. Alpine Dr., Beverly Hills
A Spanish-style home on more than a third of an acre in Beverly Hills sold for $6.7 million, down $1.25 million from the 2014 list price. Built in 1936 with a 4,093-square-foot floor plan, the home has such period details as Spanish tile, wrought iron detailing, arched doorways and beamed cathedral-style ceilings. A covered patio overlooks tiled grounds containing a loggia, a pool and a three-car garage. Sally Forster Jones of John Aaroe Group and Satenig Karajerjian of Gold Star Realty represented both the buyer and the seller.
1200 block of Lago Vista Dr., Beverly Hills
A French country-style farmhouse on nearly an acre in Beverly Hills sold for $5.925 million in about four months. Set behind a gated drive, the property has vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, Provence-style gardens, walking paths and wide views of the downtown cityscape and surrounding area. Edward Fitz of the Agency was the listing agent. Kyle Giese and Adam Rosenfeld of Matrix Realty represented the buyer.
4000 block of Chula Senda Ln., La Cañada Flintridge
A Vaughan Trammell-designed home in La Cañada Flintridge closed sale in less than a month for $5.7 million. French oak flooring, walls clad in canyon stone and raised ceilings with skylight and clerestory windows are a common theme throughout the 7,177-square-foot contemporary, which features a lower-level entertainment area with a media room, a gym and a wine cellar. Mark Ogden of Sotheby’s International Realty had the listing. Scott James of Coldwell Banker was the selling agent.
20000 block of Malibu Rd., Malibu
A modern design by architect Michael Barsocchini in Malibu sold for $5.35 million after listing for sale last year at $6.2 million. Distinguished by curved features and sliding glass doors, the 4,560-square-foot home has a gourmet kitchen, formal living and dining room areas and a master suite with an ocean-view soaking tub. Ocean-facing patios extend off each of the home’s five bedrooms. Irene Dazzan-Palmer and Sandro Dazzan of Coldwell Banker were the listing agents.
