Tear-downs: Property with a view for sale in Hollywood Hills West

Share

“Development opportunity,” “selling for land value” and “as is” are phrases used in real estate listings to describe tear-downs, those homes probably destined for the proverbial wrecking ball. Mansions with multimillion-dollar price tags, former homes of famous owners and estates designed by renowned architects can fall into this category. Our occasional feature highlights tear-downs of note.

Actress-comedienne Alexandra Wentworth was heading to New York to wed ABC news anchor and former White House aide George Stephanopoulos in 2001 when she sold her home in Hollywood Hills West for $1.6 million.

During her two years owning the Mediterranean-style house, Wentworth renovated the more than 4,000 square feet of 1950s interiors. The third-of-an-acre lot at the end of a cul-de-sac also has a swimming pool, spa and guesthouse.

After a string of owners and foreclosures, the property is for sale at $3.195 million for its potential as a building site. Views take in the ocean and stretch to downtown L.A.

A sleek multi-level residence with a two-story atrium entry, a floating-style spiral staircase and dining room with a waterfall on one wall are among the features envisioned by Ameen Ayoub Design Studio.

Conceptual drawings show sliding glass walls that open to a living room and infinity pool.

Paul Lester and Aileen Comora of the Agency are the agents for the property at 1565 Haslam Terrace, Los Angeles.
