Leg lift concentrates energy in mind, core

January 21, 2008

Here is a challenging leg-balancing move to help you develop concentration, strength and balance. You'll need to focus on core muscles so you'll feel confident in the pose. Lift your torso away from the floor as you root your standing leg.

Step 1 Stand upright with both feet together, toes facing forward. Place your hands on your hips, and shift your body weight over your right leg. Lift your chest, slide your shoulder blades down and pull your abs into your spine. Bend your left knee, and raise your left thigh and knee to hip level.

Step 2 Maintain your balance as you slowly extend your left leg straight in front of you. Reach out with your left heel, and tighten your right thigh. Pause for a few seconds, then bend your knee and lower it to the floor. Shift your weight over your left leg and repeat, raising your right leg.
