5 acres of Modernism coming to downtown L.A.

Downtown Modernism, an outdoor vintage flea market featuring retailers of Midcentury styles from across Los Angeles, is scheduled to set up shop at the Modernica factory in Vernon on Sunday.

Among the more than 60 dealers expected at the third annual event are Inheritance, Brainworks Art, Fat Chance, Conscious Home, Shopclass, Izzi Modern & Errant Objects and Lisa Cliff Jewelry. Modernica, which will have a few items for purchase, has organized the event as an outlet for quality dealers to share authentic vintage goods. Last year, the market drew more than 2,000 shoppers, who sorted through furnishings and accessories by Hans Wegner, Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames among others.

This year’s market will be installed over 5 acres near downtown Los Angeles and will include refreshments from the Border Grill Truck, Sweet Lucie’s homemade organic ice cream and gourmet coffee.

As an added incentive to lure shoppers, Modernica will host an Instagram contest for attendees throughout the day. Simply upload a photo of your favorite products to Instagram with the hashtag #DowntownModernism and you will be entered to win a Modernica Case Study ceramic planter.

And be prepared to fall in love with more than just a bubble lamp: The Downtown Dog Rescue plans to host a booth of rescued and adoptable pets throughout the day.
