2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X

OVERVIEW
Like previous Evolution models, this is based on the Lancer sedan. In this case, an all-new, more mature (but still exceptionally capable) version. The motorsport-bred augmentations include an advanced four-wheel drive system, a turbocharged engine and a suspension that should please any driving enthusiast.

Throughout its history, the Evo has been a performance bargain, providing the kind of thrills that were once the sole province of Porsches, Ferraris and the like. The 10th iteration shouldn’t depart from the program, but just add a little more sophistication. It will come in two forms: the basic GSR (with a five-speed manual transmission) and the higher-end MR that will sport a dual-clutch six-speed transmission (like the excellent VW/Audi DSG system) and various other driver-oriented additions.

OUR TAKE
As a driving machine, the Evo’s credentials are beyond reproach. The good thing about the new model is that it looks nicer and will have a better-quality interior. For anyone with even an ounce of gasoline in their veins, this is one of the most eagerly-awaited machines. Bring it on.
