Readers React: Supreme Court puts dirty-energy profits above the planet

To the editor: It is shameful, disgraceful, impractical, premature and shortsighted that the U.S. Supreme Court decided to halt President Obama’s recent climate change regulation that was achieved in Paris in a groundbreaking international agreement until legal challenges have been settled, which may take a year or more. (“Supreme Court deals blow to Obama by putting his climate change rules on hold,” Feb. 9)

This is not just another effort by a conservative Supreme Court to embarrass Obama, scuttling one of his foremost achievements. It also has worldwide implications, as it could cause the recent Paris agreement — which would significantly cut carbon emissions and was agreed to by even China and India, two of the world’s largest polluters — to fall apart.

Efforts to combat climate change should not be a political issue, as there is overwhelming scientific evidence to support the science behind them. Conservative politicians seem to be living in the dark ages regarding global warming. They seem to care more about short-term industrial profits than the long-term welfare of our planet.

To the editor: My precognitive abilities continue unchallenged.

Somehow I knew in advance exactly what the Supreme Court would do even before it issued its emergency order blocking the Environmental Protection Agency from moving forward to reduce carbon emissions from power plants. How did I know the fight against the EPA by coal producers and Republican-led states to challenge its legality would have the support of exactly five justices? And how did I know just which five it would be?

With each action of the Supreme Court nowadays, my ESP consistently tells me in advance how it will rule. Weird, hey?
