Readers React: Don’t expect Benghazi report to quiet the scandal mongers

To the editor: A House select committee appointed in May is carrying out the eighth investigation of the 2012 Benghazi, Libya, attack. Really? Another investigation? What is the point other than to keep this non-scandal alive? (“GOP panel on Benghazi finds no Obama administration wrongdoing,” Nov. 22)

All of the theories of conspiracy were debunked by a Republican-controlled House committee. I, for one, am fed up with this time wasting. We need lawmakers to address this country’s domestic problems and come together on legislation that will actually make our lives better.

The speaker of the House bailed on the Senate-approved immigration bill, and we are behind many countries with our dilapidated infrastructure. These nonsensical exercises mean nothing but headlines and the quest to keep the public confused.

To the editor: The latest Benghazi report clears the Obama administration of wrongdoing even though an ambassador and three other Americans were killed and a U.S. consulate was gutted.

This report can be filed right next to a special counsel report on the 1993 siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, even though cult leader David Koresh and nearly 80 other men, women and children were incinerated.

To the editor: For two years, the Republicans have been accusing the White House of wrongdoing in the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. It has made front-page news over and over again.

Now, a Republican-controlled panel has cleared the Obama administration of wrongdoing. How could The Times bury this article on Page 7?

This is unfortunately typical of the media: Blast nasty allegations about the government or individuals for months or years, and when they’re proven false, it’s quietly reported and the vast majority of people still believe what is untrue.
