Readers React: Warm thoughts of Rabbi Beerman

To the editor: The article on Rabbi Leonard Beerman brought back wonderful memories of growing up at Leo Baeck Temple in the 1960s and ‘70s. It bears noting that Rabbi Beerman’s political activism was coupled with pastoral dedication. (“At 93, Rabbi Leonard Beerman still stirs passions with pacifist views,” Nov. 26)

Whether patiently preparing my siblings and me for bar and bat mitzvahs, comforting my family after our father was killed in a plane crash, or just chatting after services, he was always there. His warm presence at celebrations and tragedies helps explain why Rabbi Beerman was able to be such an influential Jewish community leader for more than half a century.
