Readers React: LAX grows busier as Ontario airport shrinks

To the editor: The meteoric rise in passenger numbers at Los Angeles International Airport seems to be the consequence of political moves by airport operator Los Angeles World Airports to move as much traffic and job creation as possible to LAX from LA/Ontario International Airport, which it also operates. (“LAX increases market share as that of Ontario airport, others shrink,” Dec. 1)

For instance, Ontario has two large terminals with room to grow, but fees charged to airlines are so high that many find it cheaper to operate at LAX. This comes at the expense of thousands of jobs to the Inland Empire

LAX cannot grow much. In contrast, Ontario is in an industrial area where aircraft flyovers are not a big problem.

I used to fly to the Midwest, the East Coast and Hawaii from Ontario. Now I’m forced to drive 60 miles to LAX, and I have no say on my local airport’s future.
