405 Freeway lanes reopened in Carson after crash

Share

All lanes of the 405 Freeway in Carson were reopened Tuesday after being closed for several hours during the morning commute because of a two-car crash.

The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes north of Alameda Street and sent one person to the hospital, said California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Rubio.

The lanes were cleared about 7:45 a.m.

A vehicle had become disabled in the center lane of the freeway and had no lights on when it was hit by a big rig, NBC Los Angeles reported. The crash shut down the southbound side of the freeway for about an hour before lanes began to reopen.

Video of the crash site showed firefighters dousing a car with water that was swallowed in flames. Crews used heavy-duty saws to cut open the vehicle.

A SigAlert was issued for the freeway until about 6:30 a.m. Traffic was backed up more than two miles during the morning commute, the CHP said.
