Gunman in deadly 1994 Diamond Bar gas station robbery sentenced to life without parole
A man who fatally shot a gas station attendant in Diamond Bar as a teenager two decades ago will spend the rest of his life in prison, prosecutors announced Friday.
Lino Jesus Acero, 39, was convicted in March of first-degree murder for fatally shooting the attendant, Mahfouz Ghabour, in 1994 during an attempted robbery.
The case went cold until the mid-2000s, when LAPD detectives posted security video of the killing on its “L.A.’s Most Wanted” page, which was featured on the news.
Someone who saw the video on TV called in a tip, which eventually led to Acero’s arrest in 2014.
A witness at Acero’s trial identified him as the shooter, prosecutors said.
He was sentenced to life without parole Friday.
