Los Angeles County coroners’ officials on Sunday identified a woman killed last week by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles.

The victim was identified as Diane Dupree, 56, of Los Angeles.

The fatal accident occurred about 9:40 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and 63rd Street, police said.

The woman was crossing Crenshaw Boulevard when the vehicle, heading north, struck her, police said.

The driver did not stop to render aid as required by law. They said they are continuing their search for the driver, authorities said.

CBS Los Angeles reported that part of the fatal accident was captured by a survaillance camera in the area.

The grainy black-and-white video shows at least two vehicles, one dark in color and one lighter, traveling north on Crenshaw Boulevard at the time of the accident.

Friends told the news station that Dupree, a grandmother, lived nearby and that they hope the driver would come forward.

“Please turn yourself in, because they have surveillance tape anyway,” friend Tamara Fontaine told the station. “You don’t hit nobody, not even an animal, and keep going.”

Anyone with information about the fatal hit-and-run can call the Los Angeles Police Department at (213) 485-4164. Anonymous tips can be made with Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
