Long Beach police arrested two suspected burglars who barricaded themselves in a tented home Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when officers were dispatched on a residential burglary call in the 100 block of East 35th Street, said Arantxa Chavarria, a public information officer for the Long Beach Police Department.

The house was covered with a large red and yellow tent for fumigation, and the resident was outside in his RV when he observed through his security cameras that there were people inside his home, Chavarria said.

Officers set up a containment area and ordered the suspects to exit the tent. A male juvenile stepped outside and was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital for exposure to the chemicals inside the home, she said.

Officers continued to call for the remaining people to exit the tent. One suspect, who appeared in a window, refused to leave, authorities said.

A SWAT team entered the home at about 9:50 a.m. to conduct a search. “K9 contact occurred,” and two additional suspects were taken into custody, Long Beach police said in a statement.

The suspects were taken to a hospital for evaluation, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
