Police want help ID’ing person of interest in killing of ‘Pokemon Go’ player in San Francisco park
Federal investigators have released a sketch of a person who is believed to be involved in the killing of a man who had been playing “Pokemon Go” this summer in a San Francisco park.
Authorities asked the public to help identify the person of interest linked to the Aug. 6 fatal shooting of Calvin Riley.
Riley, 20, was playing the popular cellphone game in Aquatic Park, a waterfront park in the heart of San Francisco’s tourist district, said Sgt. Robert Jansing, a detective with the U.S. Park Police. Aquatic Park is in San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park.
The assailant did not take any of Riley’s property or attempt to rob him, Jansing said.
Park police said Wednesday that a white, four-door Toyota Avalon was seen leaving the area shortly after the slaying, and investigators also wanted help identifying the car.
The car is a 2013 to 2015 model, and investigators say it was used by a black male and a white female. Police released a sketch of the black male associated with the vehicle.
Anyone with information about the person in the sketch or the vehicle linked to the killing is asked to call the U.S. Park Police’s tip line at (415) 561-5150.
From the outset, police said they were puzzled by the shooting, which occurred about 10 p.m. along a promenade that had more than a few visitors milling about. The park annually has about 4 million visitors each year, according to officials.
Riley hailed from San Mateo, where he graduated from Junipero Serra High School in 2015. At San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Riley was studying kinesiology and playing on the college’s baseball team, according to the school website.
