Three people were shot in Oakland on Friday afternoon as the Golden State Warriors celebrated their first NBA championship in 40 years, but the incident did not take place directly along the parade route, police said.

Officers found three people with gunshot wounds in the 1800 block of Lakeshore Avenue at 12:11 p.m., said a police representative, who did not comment on the severity of their injuries or offer any additional information.

The Warriors’ parade stepped off near Broadway and 11th Street on Friday morning and was set to travel along Broadway and Lakeside Drive, according to the team’s website.

Fans had been invited to rally near the Lake Merritt Pedestrian Bridge, less than a half-mile from where police say the shooting took place.

It was not clear if the victims were attending the parade.
