Blue-haired woman sentenced to more than 100 days for scrawling anti-Trump graffiti on government buildings
A woman has been sentenced to more than 100 days in jail after admitting to causing thousands of dollars in damage by spray-painting anti-Donald Trump graffiti on several Los Angeles County buildings.
Victoria Jayne Bay, 37, of Los Angeles pleaded guilty to one felony count of vandalism over $400 damage, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Bay was sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years of probation and ordered to pay restitution, Deputy Dist. Atty. Brenda Chan said.
On Nov. 20, Bay tagged the Hall of Justice, the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, the Hall of Records and the county’s Central Heating and Refrigeration Plant.
Surveillance video showed a woman using a can of blue spray paint to deface four buildings in downtown L.A. She spray-painted vulgarities about Trump and other writings about the president-elect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials released surveillance images of the woman, who wore a plaid shirt and had a distinct mop of blue hair.
Two days later, Los Angeles Police Department officers on patrol near 1st Street and Soto Avenue stopped a woman for having an open alcoholic beverage container in public and recognized her as the suspect from the graffiti investigation, officials said.
Officers arrested Bay on suspicion of felony vandalism. At her arraignment Monday, Bay had pleaded not guilty. The plea agreement was reached later.
The damage was estimated at more than $10,000, according to the district attorney’s office. A restitution hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4.
