LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6, 2007-- The Los Angeles Times Media Group today announced two editorial appointments to reinforce the company's print and Web integration strategy. Meredith Artley, Paris-based digital development director of the New York Times Co.'s International Herald Tribune (IHT) and former associate editor of NYTimes.com, will lead The Times' online newsroom and manage the day-to-day editorial operations in the newly created position of Executive Editor, latimes.com. She will oversee an expansion of the staff and redesign of the website as well as play a key role in integrating The Times' print and online resources.
In addition, Aaron Curtiss, currently The Times' Technology Editor on the business desk, has been named to the newly established position of Deputy Innovation Editor. In that role, Curtiss will help realize the plans Times' Editor Jim O'Shea outlined last week to transform the news operation into a fully multi-media effort to better engage readers and users 24/7.

Artley began her online journalism career in 1996 with NYTimes.com where she worked for six years. As associate editor she managed the site's team of producers. She oversaw special projects, from site redesigns to section launches and led coverage of 9/11. She was also part of the Pulitzer Prize winning team for the "Race in America" series in 2000. In the last four years, she has had an impressive run at the International Herald Tribune's IHT.com, with a more than 200% increase in unique visitors to more than 4 million a month. She led an expansion of the news cycle to 24/7, the development of innovative interactive features, and the launch of several editorial partnerships and four mobile platforms. Artley graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in broadcast journalism. She will report to Barrett and The Times Innovation Editor, Russ Stanton.
Aaron Curtiss became The Times' senior technology editor in 2002. Under his direction the newspaper's technology coverage defined its voice in a crowded media landscape by focusing on the cultural changes created by the convergence of entertainment and technology. He joined the newspaper in 1988 at age 19 and progressed through writing, editorial, and managerial positions. Curtiss was also a member of the Spring Street Committee, an effort organized in the newsroom last Fall to find ways to engage and grow the Los Angeles Times audience in print and online. Curtiss holds an MBA from UCLA and a bachelor's degree in journalism from USC. He will report to Stanton.
