Hoy Launches ‘Los Angeles Times / Hoy Abriendo Puertas’ Workshops For Small Business Owners

LOS ANGELES — Hoy today announced it will host "Los Angeles Times/ Hoy Abriendo Puertas (opening doors)," a new series of financialworkshops designed to assist Southern California Latino businesscommunities and local owners. More than one in 10 Hispanics in theLos Angeles region are self-employed or own small businesses* andHoy, in keeping with its mission to provide valuable news andinformation, is striving to empower Spanish-speaking entrepreneursto stay competitive and vibrant. Further aligning itself directlywith the local communities it serves, Hoy has designed the seminarsto encourage local economic growth and attendees at each of theevents will have an opportunity to win an advertising campaign inHoy valued at $10,000.

"Studies indicate that Hispanics are starting small businesses at afaster pace than the rest of the U.S. population," said RoaldoMorán, Hoy L.A. Publisher and General Manager. The first "Los Angeles Times / Hoy Abriendo Puertas" seminar willtake place Downtown on Thursday, July 28, at the Los Angeles Times'Chandler Auditorium, followed by Huntington Park on September 29;the San Fernando Valley on November 10; Ontario on January 26,2012; and Montebello on March 29, 2012. Workshops will cover topicsincluding how to reach and engage customers, financial options forstarting and growing a business, understanding legalresponsibilities and preventing liability. The series' presentingsponsor is Wells Fargo, and Hoy is working in association with theLatino Business Chamber of Greater Los Angeles.
