Chilling scene inside James Holmes’ booby-trapped apartment revealed in new photos

Now that James Holmes has been sentenced to 12 life terms plus more than 3,000 years on top, the Arapahoe County district attorney’s office has released chilling images that show how he intricately booby-trapped his apartment.

The 27-year-old convicted murderer had wired his one-bedroom abode to explode and kill, to divert first responders from the movie theater where he was planning to shoot as many people to death as possible.

His neighbors had said loud, annoying music was blaring from his unit on the night of the shooting. Police said the bombs were rigged to go off when the front door was opened.

Police found gunpowder, fuses, bullets and wiring in the apartment that authorities claim intended to injure anyone entering it.

Police sent in a radio-controlled robot to neutralize the scene and a meticulous, days-long effort began to defuse the bombs.

The explosives never detonated.

Holmes killed 12 moviegoers and wounded 70 others in the July 20, 2012, massacre. He was convicted to 12 life sentences plus 3,318 years.

Authorities also released photos showing the crime scene inside the movie theater.
