El Camino Real 6, Chatsworth 1
After missing her team’s last two championship-game appearances, Kandice McLaughlin was looking forward to making up for lost time Saturday night in the City Championship final at East L.A. College.

The senior atoned for her absences, registering her fourth hat trick of the playoffs in propelling the Conquistadores (22-4-1) to their fourth consecutive title.

“I had a feeling Kandice was going to go get us a few goals tonight,” Coach Shauna Sarris said. “She just really took command.”

The Michigan-bound McLaughlin scored her first goal in the 13th minute from just outside the penalty box and sophomore Katie Oakes converted a penalty kick just before halftime to give the Conquistadores a 2-1 lead.Shawna Williams scored for Chatsworth (10-5-3) two minutes before halftime.

In her final home game, McLaughlin scored on a free kick from just outside the box in the 39th minute to lead top-seeded El Camino Real (22-4-1) to a 1-0 City Section semifinal victory over fourth-seeded San Pedro (15-1-5) Wednesday afternoon.

“I saw that their wall was setting up to one side, so I went around them,” said McLaughlin, who will attend the University of Michigan next season.

The Conquistadors will face sixth-seeded Chatsworth in the City Section title game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at East Los Angeles College. El Camino Real won both regular-season contests - 3-0 and 7-0. The Chancellors defeated Granada Hills, 1-0, in the other semifinal game.

El Camino Real will play in its fourth consecutive championship game, having won the previous three. But for McLaughlin, it will only be her second title game. After playing in the game her freshman season, she missed the next two - her sophomore year due to a red card in the semifinals, and her junior year due to National Team obligations.
