Danielle Platt went four for five with a home run, two triples, five RBIs and six runs in the two games to lead Santa Fe Christian (4-1) over both games. Breanna Placio went three for five with a double, triple over both contests for host Grace Brethren (2-2).

Amanda Littlejohn went three for four and had a game-winning, two-RBI double in the top of the seventh in the first game for Temescal Canyon. Sophomore Karissa Buchanan got her first varsity win in the victory for the Titans (4-2). Sophomore Ashley Ellis went two for four with two RBIs and two doubles in the second game for Temescal Canyon (5-2).

Lead-off hitter Brianna Goad homered over the right fielder’s head with two outs in the bottom of the eight inning to give No. 3 Norco (5-0) the tournament championship over No. 2 Santiago (4-1) and pitcher Taryne Mowatt.

Mowatt had given up three hits and struck out nine with no walks through 7 2/3 innings. Ursula Lopez hit a line-drive single off Mowatt’s right, pitching shoulder in the seventh inning. Mowatt went to the hospital after the game to seek treatment.

Daniela Urincho threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks for Norco. Mowatt tripled with two outs in the sixth inning.

“When I hit it, you could feel it,” Goad said of her home-run swing. “It was inside, and right there.”This means a lot. [Santiago] takes us for granted.”

The top four teams in the Student Sports national rankings are the four remining unbeaten teams among the field of 40 after two days of play at the Mojave tournament in Bullhead CIty (Ariz.)

The top-ranked team in the nation, Elkins, edged the Times’ top-ranked team, Pacifica, 1-0 in the closest of the championship quarterfinals. Elkins will face fourth-ranked Flowing Wells in one semifinal Saturday afternoon, while Clovis and Mater Dei, ranked second and third in the nation respectively, face off in the other afternoon semifinal to try to advance to the 8 p.m. championship game.
