Yasmani Grandal returned to the Dodgers’ starting lineup three days after he fouled a ball off his right ankle and required an X-ray. Grandal sat out Sunday and Monday, which forced A.J. Ellis to catch 26 innings.

“A.J. certainly took one for the team,” Manager Dave Roberts said. “Now that Yazzy is back to being at full strength, it makes sense for him to be back in there.”

Heading into Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, the Dodgers were still recuperating from Sunday’s 17-inning marathon against San Diego. Clayton Kershaw aided the cause with a brisk shutout Monday.

But the team had still played games on 18 days in a row heading into Tuesday, with a day off at long last scheduled for Thursday.

VAN SLYKE IS STILL NOT READY

Scott Van Slyke (lower-back irritation) transferred his rehabilitation assignment to triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday after playing one game with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Roberts indicated Van Slyke is still not expected to rejoin the team until it returns from a trip to New York and Chicago on June 3.

A series of roster moves could occur on that weekend. Frankie Montas will be eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list. Montas started a rehab assignment with double-A Tulsa on Sunday.

Until then, Roberts said, the Dodgers will play with a four-man bench and an eight-man bullpen.

RYU IS SET FOR OKLAHOMA CITY

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder surgery) will make his third rehab start of the season. He will pitch with triple-A Oklahoma City. Ryu will pitch four innings and 60 to 65 pitches.

Ryu is expected to make four or five starts before he can rejoin the big league roster. His fastball has hovered in the upper 80s during his first two outings.
