An X-ray examination of Dodgers All-Star Alex Wood’s right ankle revealed only inflammation a day after he injured himself during a calisthenics drill.

Wood sat out the workout Thursday but returned to action Friday. He played long toss and threw off a mound. He intends to throw a full bullpen session on Saturday.

“Everything was fine,” Wood said. “I just have a little inflammation in my foot. Nothing crazy. I could have, and I wanted to, throw my bullpen today. But they’re just going to back it up, and see how I feel tomorrow.”

Wood pitched with a bothersome bone bruise in his right ankle during his first few months as a Dodger, after the team acquired him during the summer of 2015. The injury caused glitches in his mechanics which Wood has corrected during the last two seasons.

Wood made his first All-Star team in 2017. He finished the season with a 16-3 record and a 2.72 earned-run average. His fastball velocity decreased in the second half as he dealt with inflammation in the joint that connects the shoulder and the sternum.

SHORT HOPS: Pitching prospect Walker Buehler returned to action after missing the workout Thursday to undergo additional testing related to his physical.
