Lucas Giolito to make debut for Nationals
The Washington Nationals are recalling Lucas Giolito, 21, to make his major league debut Tuesday against the New York Mets.
The No. 16 pick in the 2012 draft, Giolito is 5-3 with a 3.17 earned-run average and 72 strikeouts in 71 innings at double-A Harrisburg.
Giolito had elbow ligament-replacement surgery three months after he was drafted.
Matz to bypass turn
Mets left-hander Steven Matz (7-3, 3.29 ERA) might bypass his next start because of elbow discomfort.
He had an MRI exam Monday.
Ogando is designated
Right-hander Alexi Ogando was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves.
Ogando was 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA. He spent his first five seasons with Texas and was 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA in a career-high 64 games with Boston last year.
