Chris Heisey and the Dodgers avoid salary arbitration

Outfielder Chris Heisey and the Dodgers avoided salary arbitration, as the two sides agreed Thursday to a 2015 salary of $2.16 million.

Heisey, 30, was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in the off-season in exchange for right-hander Matt Magill. Heisey could be the right-handed-hitting component of a center-field platoon that could also include Joc Pederson or Andre Ethier.

An above-average defender, Heisey drew a $1.76-million salary last season, when he batted .222 with eight home runs and 22 runs batted in in 119 games with the Reds.

His deal with the Dodgers came a day before the deadline for the team to exchange salary figures with its arbitration-eligible players. The Dodgers have three players who remain eligible for arbitration: closer Kenley Jansen, infielder Justin Turner and right-hander Juan Nicasio.

While working out at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, Jansen was evasive when asked about his negotiations with the Dodgers. He wouldn’t say if he and the Dodgers are talking about a multiyear deal.
