Dee Gordon goes blazing in Dodgers’ 6-1 win over Rockies

Apparently it’s difficult to slump too long these days, if you happen to be the Blue Comet or the Blue Blur or the Big Blue Whatever.

Safe to say, Dee Gordon is fast. And as they love to say in sports, you can’t teach speed.

Gordon entered Monday’s game against the Rockies having managed two hits in his last 17 at-bats, and then proceeded to collect four hits and a walk in leading the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory over Colorado before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 44,077.

The victory pulled the Dodgers within six games of the idle Giants in the National League West and snapped a five-game winning streak for the Rockies.

Gordon’s four hits raised his average 11 points to .285 and were part of a 15-hit attack by the Dodgers.

He collected three singles and a triple, the triple almost going for his first career inside-the-park home run. Gordon lined a hit past diving third baseman Charlie Culberson and into the left-field corner in the third.

At first Rockies left-fielder Charlie Blackmon had the ball bounce between his legs, then when he bent over to pick it up, he dropped it. So Gordon just kept going and scored the Dodgers’ first run. Blackmon was charged with an error.

The Dodgers added one more in third when Hanley Ramirez walked, took second on a hit by Yasiel Puig and scored on a Matt Kemp single.

Those were all the runs Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-3) would need. He went six innings for the Dodgers, allowing one run on a solo homer to catcher Wilin Rosario. He walked one, struck out six and allowed three hits.

Brandon League, J.P. Howell, Brian Wilson and Jamey Wright held the Rockies scoreless the rest of the way.

Joining Gordon in the Dodgers’ hit parade were Puig with three and Kemp with two, including a double that hit the center-field wall near the 395-foot sign.
