Are they any good? A promising team with the two best twentysomething superstars in baseball?

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman argues that with Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp to lead them, anything is possible with the Dodgers. Unless it was last year.

Meanwhile, our favorite curmudgeon, The Times’ T.J. Simers, wonders why fans aren’t just generally more ticked off at the team’s uninspiring off-season.

-- He’s in, he’s out, he’s back in. Hey, there’s always tomorrow.

That was an interesting two months for Joe Torre, who left his job as an executive with Major League Baseball to pursue a bid with Rick Caruso to buy the Dodgers.

Six weeks later, they withdrew from the auction, claiming they were not interested in purchasing the Dodgers if Frank McCourt was unwilling to include the stadium parking lots. All five remaining bidders want the parking lots.

But Friday, MLB announced that Torre was returning to his former job as executive vice president of baseball operations.

“It was appropriate for him to step away while he looked into a unique opportunity, and now we are delighted to welcome him back to a position in which he thrived,” Commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.

So this means Torre won’t be available to join the winning bidder in some capacity? With these things, it’s always “stay tuned.”

-- The Dodgers’ looming record sale figures to be a huge financial boon to Padres majority owner John Moores now that team CEO Jeff Moorad has resigned and bowed out of his bid to buy the team. Yahoo Sports Jon Paul Morosi writes that the losers in the Dodgers bid figure to turn their gaze south.

Morosi also argues that Moorad’s agent past may have worked against him, particularly with Selig ally Jerry Reinsdorf, the White Sox owner. Which is curious, because the supposed leading candidate to buy the Dodgers, Steven Cohen, is hooked up with agent Arn Tellum and a Reinsdorf special assistant with the White Sox is ex-super agent Dennis Gilbert.

-- Gotta sing! Anyway, if you think your pipes qualify, the Dodgers will be holding auditions all day March 31 to sing the national anthem at home games. No word if Simon Cowell will be judging.
