AT THE PLATE: Dee Gordon was four for four with two runs and a walk, helping the Dodgers reduce their deficit to the first-place San Francisco Giants to six games. Matt Kemp maintained his solid form at the plate, as he was two for four with a double and two runs batted in. Kemp has six multihit games in his last 11 games. Hanley Ramirez scored two runs and drove in another. Adrian Gonzalez was out of the lineup, as Manager Don Mattingly said he would like to rest his 32-year-old first baseman once a week.

ON THE MOUND: Hyun-Jin Ryu won for the fifth time in his last six starts, as he limited the Rockies to a run and three hits over six innings. The only run he gave up came on a fourth-inning home run by Wilin Rosario.

SEASON OVER: Chad Billingsley will undergo a season-ending operation next week to repair a partially torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. The operation could mark the end of Billingsley’s time in Los Angeles, as the Dodgers are expected to decline the $14-million team option in the right-hander’s contract for next season. Billingsley made the decision after a conversation Sunday with team physician Neal ElAttrache. “It’s the best chance I’ll be able to pitch next year,” said Billingsley, who never returned from an operation he underwent last year to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Billingsley said if he rehabilitates his flexor tendon instead of having it surgically repaired, there is significant chance he could reinjure his UCL. That would require him to undergo a second Tommy John operation. “The percentages weren’t in my favor,” he said. Billingsley said he expects to be sidelined for six months.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: First-round draft pick Grant Holmes said Monday he will sign with the Dodgers if he passes a physical examination. A hard-throwing 18-year-old right-hander from South Carolina, Holmes was selected 22nd overall. With scouting director Logan White by his side, Holmes toured Dodger Stadium on Monday. Holmes said he was “beyond ready” to start his professional career. In the unlikely case Holmes’ deal with the Dodgers falls apart, he will pitch next season at the University of Florida. Holmes said he grew up an Atlanta Braves fan and compared his style of pitching to Craig Kimbrel’s.
