DeMarcus Cousins faces a “substantial fine” from the Sacramento Kings for his profane tirade toward a reporter after a game last week, according to a statement by the team published Tuesday by the Undefeated.

The team, which did not reveal the amount of the fine, will not suspend Cousins.

“The Kings have a clear set of standards of conduct expected of our entire organization,” the statement read. “As a result of negative interactions with certain members of the media that were not corrected after verbal warnings, we have decided to impose a substantial fine. If this behavior is repeated again we will be forced to consider further discipline.”

Following a 116-92 victory over the Lakers on Dec. 12, Cousins confronted Sacramento Bee columnist Andy Furillo in the locker room. Furillo recently had written about a federal lawsuit against Cousins and teammate Matt Barnes over an assault at a nightclub.

In the column, Furillo mentioned another incident at a bar involving Cousins in May that resulted in the arrest of the player’s brother, Jaleel Cousins, who plays for the Dallas Mavericks’ Development League affiliate.

That’s apparently what set Cousins off against Furillo.

“Don’t ever mention my brother again,” Cousins said while pointing a finger in the columnist’s face. “You don’t know my … brother.” After walking a couple of steps away, he continued: “You say whatever the … you want to say about me but don’t ever mention my … family.”

The incident went public last week after the Sacramento Bee posted a video of it, along with several other run-ins Cousins has had with local media.

Cousins was suspended one game by the Kings last season for “conduct detrimental to the team” the day after a game in which he appeared to direct a tirade toward then-Coach George Karl.
