Jeremy Lin sprains left ankle in practice, to be reevaluated Sunday

Lakers point guard Jeremy Lin sprained his left ankle in practice on Saturday.

Lin suffered the injury toward the end of practice while scrimmaging with his teammates. He’ll be reevaluated on Sunday.

The Lakers will play their third preseason game on Sunday when they host the Golden State Warriors in Ontario.

Lin scored 14 points with four assists and four rebounds in a 120-105 loss to the Warriors on Thursday at Staples Center.

If Lin is unable to play Sunday, starter Steve Nash with presumably be backed up by veteran Ronnie Price.

“I think Robert Sacre kind of stepped on him, when they were playing five-on-five,” said Coach Byron Scott of how Lin sustained the sprained ankle. “He was in a little pain. He kind of walked out on his own, but he was in a little pain.”

Scott wasn’t sure of Lin’s status to play against the Warriors.

“The more I can play him, the more he’s out there, the better for him,” said Scott. “But if that thing is real tender tomorrow, then we’ll obviously have to sit him down.”

The Lakers received some positive news Saturday, as guard/forward Xavier Henry participated in his first full-contact, five-on-five scrimmage after sitting out most of the exhibition season with knee and back issues.

Scott said that Henry would not play in the exhibition game on Sunday.

Rookie Jordan Clarkson sat out practice, sidelined for at least a week with a calf injury.

Ryan Kelly (hamstring) did some light running and shooting. Nick Young, who recently underwent thumb surgery, practiced his left-handed skills individually, with his right arm in a sling.

Through two preseason games, the Lakers are 1-1. They start the regular season on Oct. 28 at home against the Houston Rockets.
