The NBA announced Wednesday that Clippers forward Blake Griffin was suspended one game without pay for getting his 16th technical foul of the season.

It means that Griffin can’t play in the Clippers’ regular-season finale Wednesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers.

However, Clippers Coach Doc Rivers had said after their game against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night that Griffin wouldn’t be traveling with the team to Portland anyway.

Rivers wanted to rest Griffin for the playoffs that start this weekend.

Griffin has been dealing with back spasms that forced him to miss one game.

The NBA rules state that a player or coach is automatically suspended without play after he receives his 16th technical foul of the season.

Though Griffin isn’t playing against the Trail Blazers, his suspension will cost him about $200,000 in lost salary.

Griffin was called for the technical foul after hitting Denver center Timofey Mozgov in the head while trying to swipe at the basketball with 3:23 left in the second quarter of the Clippers’ victory over the Nuggets.
