Red Sox delete ill-timed tweet in aftermath of Ferguson decision

The Boston Red Sox really did have a good Monday, picking up a pair of coveted free agents as part of their rebuilding process.

They just picked a horrible time to gloat about it on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, the team agreed to terms with third baseman Pablo Sandoval and former Dodger Hanley Ramirez, who is expected to switch from short stop to left field. Someone within the organization apparently decided to celebrate the moves with a seemingly simple tweet:

“So how was everyone’s Monday?”

Unfortunately for the team, that tweet was sent out one minute after the announcement that white Ferguson, Mo., police Officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted in the death Michael Brown, an unarmed young black man.

The grand jury decision set off a night of violence in Ferguson and protests in other cities around the country.

Hundreds of people responded angrily to the Red Sox tweet, which was removed almost immediately. Red Sox spokeswoman Zineb Curran said Tuesday the team’s “hearts go out to all who are suffering.”
