Donald Sterling’s attorney dismisses claim his client is mentally incompetent

Donald Sterling’s attorney, Maxwell Blecher, called allegations that his client isn’t mentally competent “absurd” in a Friday email to The Times.

In the wake of Shelly Sterling’s agreement to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion Thursday, multiple media reports indicated she said her husband wasn’t capable of making such a decision.

The Sterlings co-own the Clippers through a family trust.

Earlier this month, Shelly Sterling told the “Today” show that she believes Donald Sterling has dementia.

In Friday’s email, Blecher said he wasn’t sure if Donald Sterling will challenge the sale and related matters in court.

“That decision hasn’t been made,” Blecher said.

A meeting of the NBA Board of Governors to vote on terminating the Sterlings’ ownership remains scheduled for Tuesday in New York.
