Carolina defensive end Jared Allen came up with the perfect way to announce the end of his 12-year NFL career — by literally riding off into the sunset.

But on the day he recorded a farewell video to fans, there was no sun and, therefore, no sunset to ride off into.

So Allen came up with the perfect solution.

“This was the part where I was gonna ride off into the sunset,” Jared said from atop a horse, “but seeing how there’s no sunset, I’m just gonna ride off.”

And that’s just what the five-time Pro Bowler did.

Allen was a fourth-round pick for Kansas City in 2004, spent four years with the Chiefs and six with Minnesota before playing for Chicago for more than one season and spending most of last season with the Panthers.

His total of 136 career sacks is more than any active player has compiled and ninth-best all time.
