Actor Patrick Dempsey to again race in 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015
Actor Patrick Dempsey will race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the third consecutive year in 2015, Porsche North America said Wednesday.
The “Grey’s Anatomy” star will again drive a Porsche 911 RSR in the legendary endurance race June 13-14 in Le Mans, France.
There are several classes of cars in the race, and Dempsey and his co-drivers -- including his longtime teammate Patrick Long -- compete in the GTE Am division.
Their car will be prepared by Dempsey’s Atlanta-based Dempsey Racing team and Proton Competition, a German Porsche team.
Dempsey, an avid sports car driver, and his teammates finished fourth in their class at Le Mans in 2013 and fifth this year.
“Porsche was winning sports car races before I was even born,” Dempsey, 48, said in a statement. “There are moments when I simply cannot believe that I am now a member of this great team.”
Dempsey will drive at Le Mans as part of a season competing in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship. The team also races in an American sports car series named the Tudor United SportsCar Championship.
