Memphis Grizzlies beat the Clippers, 107-91

So much for the Clippers’ perfect road trip.

After beating Orlando and Miami by lopsided scores, the Clippers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, 107-91, in their third game of a seven-game trip on Sunday.

The Clippers cut the Grizzlies’ lead to eight points late in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies quickly pushed it up to as much as 25. The Clippers went on another run in the fourth quarter, prompting Coach Doc Rivers to put the starters back in the game, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.

The Grizzlies outshot the Clippers, 49.4% to 41.6%, and out-rebounded them, 52-32.

The Grizzlies, who have now won 22 consecutive regular-season games at home, demonstrated great interior passing, finishing with six players in double digits. They were led by Marc Gasol, who finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds.

The Clippers were led by Chris Paul, who had 22 points and five assists. The Grizzlies held Blake Griffin to 12 points on five-for-17 shooting and just four rebounds. The 6-foot Paul had one more rebound than Griffin.

The Clippers, who had been sharing the ball beautifully over the past two games, finished with only 14 assists. The Grizzlies had 20.

It’s always an event when the Clippers and Grizzlies meet, considering their recent playoff history. The Clippers won Game 7 of a first-round playoff series against Memphis in 2012, before returning the next year and being eliminated in the first round in a Game 6 blowout.
