Report: Robert Griffin III could be back in time for next exhibition game

Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III was injured Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III could be ready to play in the Redskins’ Aug. 29 exhibition game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

The report comes a day after Griffin suffered a concussion on the second of back-to-back sacks during the second quarter of the team’s 21-17 victory over Detroit.

Jones reports that the concussion isn’t considered severe.

Griffin was having a tough outing even before the injury. He completed two of five passes for eight yards and was sacked three times for a loss of 17 yards while playing four series.

Redskins Coach Jay Gruden was asked after the game why he brought his starting quarterback out for a fourth series on such a rough night in only the second exhibition game.

“We weren’t doing that well on offense. I wanted to try to get something going on offense,” Gruden said. “A lot of quarterbacks play into the second quarter in a preseason game. Football is a tough sport.”

He added that Griffin would be the starter against the Ravens if he’s able to play and has enough time to prepare.
