After nearly two weeks of competition, the U.S. team finished the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, with 22 medals -- 10 gold, five silver and seven bronze.

Swimmer Hannah Moore led the 92-member squad with victories in the 200-meter backstroke and the 400 freestyle.

“In the beginning, it was really intimidating walking in here at my first international event,” Moore said. “But it’s been an amazing experience.”

More than 200 nations sent a total of about 3,800 athletes from age 15 to 18 to Nanjing.

The competition included all the sports that will be on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics program. There were also new disciplines such as 3-on-3 basketball and mixed gender events.

Charlie Paddock, the chef de mission for the American team, called Nanjing “truly a positive experience for us, helping prepare our athletes for the next level.”
