Boys’ basketball: Redondo defeats Long Beach Poly in tourney final

Redondo (4-0) won its own tournament championship on Saturday night, defeating Long Beach Poly, 64-49.

Ranked No. 7 by The Times in the preseason, the Sea Hawks showed off good guard play all week. Morgan Means had 16 assists in a win against Oak Park earlier and came through strong again Saturday with 12 points.

Cameron Williams of Redondo was named tournament MVP. Zafir Williams of Poly was named most outstanding player.

In consolation games in the Redondo tournament, Jordan Cohen scored 26 points in Campbell Hall’s 64-52 win over Mayfair. Narbonne defeated Lynwood, 57-35. Brandon Russell had 14 points in El Camino Real’s 56-53 win over Hart. Riley Battin scored 27 points and had 23 rebounds in Oak Park’s 59-43 win over Peninsula. Wes Slajchert added 16 points.

Inglewood defeated Compton, 54-51. De’Anthony Melton, Brandon Williams and Taj Regans each had 15 points as Crespi held off Rancho Christian, 63-59, in double overtime to win the consolation title. Isaiah Mobley had 13 points for Rancho Christian.

Eastvale Roosevelt defeated Westchester, 64-61, in the third-place game. Alize Travis made the game-winning basket. Jemarl Baker scored 30 points for Roosevelt. Keith Fisher had 23 points for Westchester.

In Illinois, Alemany defeated Kewanee, 78-59. Shacquille Dawkins finished with 23 points. DJ McDonald had 22 points and Earnie Sears 15 points. Brandon Davis added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Ocean View tournament, Bishop Montgomery rallied for a 58-56 win over Santa Margarita. Fletcher Tynen had the game-winning basket. Ethan Thompson finished with 17 points. Noah Rasheed led Santa Margarita with 20 points.

Alec Hickman had 18 points in JSerra’s 66-57 win over Troy. Sebastian Much added 14 points.

In a nonleague game, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Oaks Christian, 73-44. Chibueze Jacobs and Eli Herman each scored 17 points.

St. John Bosco won the championship of the El Monte tournament with a 68-52 win over University. JJ Watson scored 20 points and was named tournament MVP. Jude Agbasi led University with 20 points.

In Northern California, No. 2-ranked Sierra Canyon opened with a 60-59 loss to Moreau Catholic, giving up a basket with 1.2 seconds left. Cody Riley had 16 points. Sierra Canyon couldn’t hold onto a 14-point lead in third quarter.
