Now that you’ve had about a week to relax, it’s time to start looking forward for the next high school basketball season, and the best summer tournament figures to be at Fairfax High beginning on Monday, June 27.

Chino Hills, Sierra Canyon, Mater Dei and Crespi top the 16-team field. The big question always is how many of the top players will play instead of heading off for camps. The good news is Chino Hills, with four returning starters from its 35-0 team, always seems to stick together for summer competition, so the group of LiAngelo Ball, LaMelo Ball, Eli Scott and Onyetka Okongwu should be together.

The fact that Sierra Canyon could get a chance to play Chino Hills in a summer game might encourage the Trailblazers to stick round. Center Marvin Bagley III will be making his debut for Sierra Canyon, which features Remy Martin and Cody Riley in their senior years.

Mater Dei had lots of sophomores and juniors last season, led by guard Spencer Freedman. Crespi returns standout guards Brandon Williams and Taj Regans from its state Division I championship team.

The other teams enterered include Corona Centennial, Long Beach Poly, Redondo, Maranatha, Alemany, La Canada, Brentwood, Orange Lutheran, Santa Monica, Loyola and Fairfax. Santa Margarita is on the waiting list.

The tournament’s championship game will be played on Saturday, July 2.
